Awarded « Best Reggae Band in Southern Africa » at the 2016 Mzansi Awards, Azania Band is the Iconic South Africa’s reggae band, respected for its great musical quality and social action on the battlefield since its founding . Solid bass lines and hypnotic melodies with Dub and Jazzy touch are the keys to Azania’s unique deep & heavy sound.

Cape Town, early 90s in « Nyanga » township’s the dark alleys, the bassist Wakhile Xhalisa founded the « GhettoSound Studio » and his group « Azania band », a new chapter of African reggae opens. Azania Band performed on biggest stages alongside legends such as Burning Spear, Bunny Wailer, Culture to name a few. As Southern Africa most experienced backing band, Azania is required by international headliners touring the area such as Anthony B, Gentleman, Tony Rebel, Cedric Myton, Queen Ifrica …

Today, Azania Band continues its development abroad with their 2 new albums « Be Proud » & “Azania Band meets Cedric Myton”, mixed by the Dub Master Manjul (Mali) , is a collection of intensely Roots nuggets to discover in 2024
At the same time, his production team is cooking a socio-musical documentary retracing over 30 years of activism under and after the apartheid regime
