SATURDAY AFTER EVERY FULL MOON.
It is said that the full moon releases the most animal instincts. Every Saturday after the orb reaches its peak,
hundreds of electronic music lovers gather in a secret location for a night of deep and afro-house celebration. Led
by a collective of Montreal artists of DJ’s, VJ’s, dancers and musicians, moonshiners share the ritual until the sun
rises. Event gets announced 48h before its start. Exact location never gets publicly released and can only be retrieved on the day of the party by text.
Born in Montreal’s Mile-End in 2014, Moonshine has become a rendez-vous of Montreal’s nightlife and electronic scene.
The collective is home to Pierre Kwenders, San Farafina, AKantu, and Kizaba, and welcomed on its line-ups acts such as Kaytranada, Shabazz Palaces, Poirier, Bambii, Branko LSDXOXO (NYC), Oscar Nñ (Papi Juice, NYC), Uproot Andy (Que Bajo ?!, NYC), DJ Windows 98 and many more.
In 2016, the collective started a full-service music company to support the artists who gravitate around Moonshine events and help them spread their sonic waves to the world. Following the pace of moon cycles, Moonshine has built a solid international reputation on tour fueled by the success of the collective’s albums. In its series SMS for Location, the artistic core of the collective, which counts among its members the singer and DJ Pierre Kwenders, recipient of the Polaris Prize in 2022, surrounds itself with numerous collaborators from the local and international scene such as Sango,
Georgia Ann Muldrow, Dj Lag, Uniiqu3, Vanyfox, Bambii, Kris the $pirit and Nate Husser.
Current artists signed on the label include Vanyfox, the powerhouse of the electronic scene and one of the best purveyors of batida, Congolese record producer and pioneer of amapiano DJ P2N, and Èbony, hailed by Boiler Room as the « must-have duo of Toronto’s club scene », best known for their talent in fusing the futuristic sound of Detroit techno and the signature sound of Chicago with South African melodies from ‘avant-garde.
Recently signed with Warner Music (ADA) for distribution, Moonshine is gearing up for the release of SMS for Location Vol.6, out May 2, 2025. This new chapter in the collective’s journey is currently being teased through an ongoing Europe tour, spotlighting collaborations with some of the most relevant electronic producers from the continent and its diaspora.
Building on a decade of boundary-pushing music and community, this upcoming release continues to blur lines between genres, geographies, and generations—true to the spirit of Moonshine
